The Medical Center of Central Georgia welcomes Renowned Orthopaedic Traumatologists

11/16/2009

MACON (November 16, 2009) – The Medical Center of Central Georgia announces the expansion of the Georgia Orthopaedic Trauma Institute (GOTI) and the addition of two additional nationally recognized orthopaedic traumatologists. For many years, individuals in Central Georgia who sustain orthopaedic trauma have benefited greatly from the dedication, compassion, and expertise provided by surgeons in our private orthopaedic community. As a Level I Trauma Center, The Medical Center of Central Georgia has been fortunate to receive an ongoing commitment from our private practice orthopaedic surgeons to provide necessary emergency services and follow-up care to patients with a wide range of orthopaedic injuries. In order to provide support for our private orthopedists and expand our ability to manage the most challenging and complex orthopaedic injuries, MCCG established and is now expanding the Georgia Orthopaedic Trauma Institute.

GOTI will be under the direction of three of the nation’s top orthopaedic traumatologists. John Floyd, MD, who completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Maryland, established the GOTI program in 2007 and has managed hundreds of patients with extensive orthopaedic trauma. Clifford Turen, MD hails from Baltimore, Maryland and was on the teaching faculty at both Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Maryland. Lawrence Webb, MD has relocated from North Carolina where he was professor and chief of orthopaedic trauma at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Bowman Gray campus.

The expansion of the Georgia Orthopaedic Trauma Institute with the addition of two additional orthopaedic traumatologists has confirmed and strengthened The Medical Center of Central Georgia’s commitment to excellence in orthopaedic as well as general trauma care for all of Central Georgia and the State of Georgia as a whole. The completion of an on-site helipad in early 2010 will also improve timely access to the expertise of all of MCCG’s dedicated trauma personnel.
